Choose the Ellipse tool.
Hold the Shift key while dragging.
Choose the Scissors tool.
Clip at the top and bottom of the circle. Pick the Direct Selection tool and choose one side.
Then click on the Selection tool. Choose the Rotate tool and hold the Shift key down and rotate 180 %.
Choose one half and apply Revolve.
Convert the default to Right Edge.
Move the lighting close to the top.
The planet will look like this.
Choose the other half and apply Revolve. Change to Right Edge and Surface to Wireframe. Rotate the box in the little window until you have set the top of the planet to the same place and the lighting. Place the grid over the planet. Change the colour to medium gray and its transparent to Overlay. The planet is ready.
