Learn how to create dotted lines in Adobe Illustrator with our guide. From using the stroke panel to creating your own dotted brushes, our guide covers all the essential steps and techniques for creating dotted lines that add visual interest and depth to your designs.
Open the Stroke Palette from Window>Stroke. Draw a line and choose it. Enter the dash and gap value as shown below. Experiment with different dash and gap values for different effects. Enter the same dash and weight to make a square dotted line.
To make circle dotted lines, choose the Round Cap and make sure the dash is set to 0 pt and enter a value twice the stroke weight for the gap. That’s your circle dotted lines.
Bonus Tip: Object>Expand will not work for expanding the dotted lines. So, use Object>Flatten Transparency to expand it. You can now fill each dot with different colours.
